February 1st Meeting: Hacking your process
This month, user group member Damian Brady is giving us a look at some advice on how to start making your processes work for you.
Abstract:
A successful process is not one size fits all; every team and project is different. Scrum may be an awesome framework for managing your development process, but it should only be a starting point.
In this session, we’ll look at when and how to inspect and adapt your own process to increase the effectiveness of your team. We’ll look at examples of projects that have deviated from the norm, the reasons for change, and why they succeeded or failed. Finally, we’ll look at how you can apply these learnings to your own team process.
Learn how to excommunicate yourself from the cargo-cult and starting making your process work for you.

December 7th Meeting: TFS Customisation Governance
This month, user group member David Cook is giving us a look at some governance around customisation in TFS.
Abstract:
One of the very first features of TFS has been the ability to customise the process template to suit the needs of your teams. Unfortunately, many of these customisations are performed without the proper analysis on the needs of the teams, or the future maintainability of the process. Also, many find the next time they upgrade TFS, they are missing out on all the new cool features.
In this session, we will take a look at some of the customisations we can apply to TFS and not just how to implement those customisations, but how you can apply governance to these customisations.

October 5th Meetup: PreEmptive Analytics in TFS2012
This month, user group vice president Richard Angus is giving us a look at a great new feature include din TFS 2012.
Abstract:
In this session Richard will demonstrate PreEmptive Analytics Community Edition for Team Foundation Server. This is a third party tool created by PreEmptive which allows you to gain insight into errors experienced by your customers. By instrumenting your application for analytics, you’ll be able to see these exceptions in Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2012 so you can easily triage them right alongside your bugs. Exceptions are analyzed, correlated, and distilled into a set of “production incidents” based on the rules and operational thresholds you specify.

August 3rd meeting: Build-Deploy-Test using Standard Environments in TFS 2012
This month, user group VP Richard Angus steps up to present a session on one of the great new features in TFS 2012. The session is very well timed with the expected RTM of TFS 2012 in the first week of August for MSDN subscribers.
Abstract:
Lab Management in TFS2010 offered many great features for teams in terms of automation of the Build-Deploy-Test (BDT) scenario. Unfortunately the configuration and infrastructure requirements often put this product out of reach for small teams. Come along to this month’s QALMUG to see Richard Angus demonstrate how the entry barriers to a full BDT scenario have been removed using standard environments in TFS 2012.
During this talk, we will
- walk through creating a standard Lab Management environment
- walk through setting up pre-requisites for Lab Management build-deploy-test
- Automate the build-deploy-test process using TFS Build, Microsoft Test Manager, and Visual Studio 2012
