Getting started developing extensions for VSTS

SESSION ABSTRACT:

Extensions are simple add-ons that can be used to customize and extend your DevOps experience with either Visual Studio Team Services or Team Foundation Server. In this live session, Mitch Denny will present remotely from the Microsoft campus in Redmond and show you how to get started developing extensions.
You’ll learn about the different extension points available in the product as well and how you can use Javascript or Powershell and talk to REST APIs to access the data and services in VSTS/TFS. You’ll also see how you can publish your extensions to the Visual Studio marketplace.

Mitch is an Aussie living in Redmond working as a Program Manager on the Visual Studio Team Services team. He’s been working in the ALM/DevOps space for more than a decade and is focused on helping product teams at Microsoft get the most out of VSTS.

DevOps is about people, process and products. Getting it all right requires effort but the benefits to your organization and customers can be huge. Microsoft has a fantastic set of products that can adapt to any language on any platform. In this demo-heavy keynote, Donovan Brown will show you how to go from “zero to DevOps” like a pro. Starting from just a blank desktop, he will create a new team project and a complete pipeline. He will also deploy an ASP.NET MVC application into Azure all live and hands on.

Donovan Brown is a Senior DevOps Program Manager on the US Developer Division team in Microsoft, focusing on developer tools including Visual Studio Team Services and Team Foundation Server. Before joining Microsoft, Donovan spent seven years as a Process Consultant and a Certified Scrum Master. Donovan has traveled the globe helping companies in the U.S., Canada, India, Germany, and the UK develop solutions using agile practices, Visual Studio, and Team Foundation Server in industries including Communications, Health Care, Energy, and Financial Services. He is also an avid programmer, often finding ways to integrate software into his other hobbies and activities.

TITLE:
VSTS/TFS latest enhancements and RPi Build Light for VSTS

SESSION ABSTRACT:

For our May meetup, we're going to look at the latest enhancements and improvements in Visual Studio Team Services and Team Foundation Server. With Microsoft's increased release cadence is important to stay up to date and make sure you're benefiting from all of the productivity improvements!

We'll also take another look at Codify's VSTS Build Monitor following recent improvements. If you're a gadget-fan and you're looking for a reason to start playing with IoT and Raspberry Pi the news gets even better!!!  Codify will give one lucky attendee a free VSTS Build-Light to brighten up you dev/test pod! Built on Windows 10 IoT Core, you will need a Raspberry Pi 2 or 3, and 12v RGB LED light strip.
